OEM FAAC brackets are well-made but backordered more often than most people expect. Signs Your FAAC Welding & Fabrication Is Failing

• The gate sags toward the latch side. A worn or cracked weld at the bottom hinge lets the leaf settle. The operator is now pushing against gravity as well as the gate’s own weight, which accelerates motor wear on the 400-series units specifically.
• A sharp pop or crack when the gate reverses direction. That’s often a fractured weld at the piston bracket or the mounting ear. The metal separates slightly under load, then snaps back when the load reverses. It will fail completely, and it does not announce a date first.
• The operator arm seems to push “through” the gate before the leaf moves. Loose bolts at the motor bracket or a wallowed-out hole at the attachment point create play in the system. On the 770 series, that play gets read by the control board as a resistance spike, which can trigger false obstruction faults.
• Rust staining weeping from a hinge or bracket. Garden Grove’s coastal humidity accelerates corrosion at the heat-affected zone of older welds, particularly on ungated communities closer to the 22 freeway where you get marine layer and light industrial fallout. Rust bleeding through a weld line means the joint is actively deteriorating internally.
• The gate closes hard against the stop, then bounces. A cracked leaf reinforcement plate lets the leading edge flex on impact. The flex absorbs the stop’s resistance, the control board doesn’t register full closure, and the operator retries or faults out. It looks like an electrical problem. It’s usually metal fatigue.

What you can safely do yourself: inspect the brackets and hinges with the gate in manual release (disengage the FAAC operator first by turning the release key), photograph what you find, and tighten any bolt that’s visibly loose. What you should not attempt: re-welding a hinge or bracket while the operator is still connected, grinding or cutting near the hydraulic lines on S418/S450 units, or welding on any component that carries the gate’s full weight while the leaf is under tension. The energy stored in a loaded gate leaf is not forgiving. If you misjudge the release, the leaf can swing and pin someone against the post. That’s not a warning from a corporate manual.
