BFT Hinge & Roller Replacement: The Garden Grove Owner’s Guide
BFT hinge and roller replacement in Garden Grove typically runs between $165 and $410 installed, depending on the hinge style, roller count, and which BFT gate model you have. We carry BFT-compatible hinge kits and rollers on our trucks and can usually complete the swap the same day we arrive. The way most owners find out a hinge or roller has failed: the gate starts dragging on one corner, makes a grinding noise mid-travel, or the top of the gate leans away from the post like it’s tired.
Which BFT Models This Applies To
BFT uses different hinge and roller hardware across its gate model lines, and the wrong part will bolt up but bind within a month. The Deimos and Phobos swing gate operators generally pair with heavy-duty steel post hinges sized to the gate leaf weight. The more compact BFT sliding gate kits, like the Giuno and Rigel series, run on nylon or steel guide rollers that ride a floor track and carry the gate’s weight through every open-close cycle. If your motor says Deimos but your gate runs on a track, you’re dealing with a slide setup, not a swing setup, and the hinge and roller conversation changes entirely.
Here’s the compatibility gotcha we see most often in Garden Grove: BFT swing gates shipped with the kit use metric hinge pins, and the pin diameter is either 20 mm or 25 mm depending on the gate weight class. A 20 mm hinge pin in a 25 mm hinge leaf will run loose, wallow out the bore, and eventually crack the hinge bracket. We measure the pin and the leaf on-site before quoting anything, because guessing here means buying the part twice. OEM BFT hinge sets are available for most current production models, but we also stock quality aftermarket equivalents for older Deimos and Phobos units where the OEM part has been discontinued.
Signs Your BFT Hinge & Roller Replacement Is Failing

- Gate drags or scrapes on the closing edge. The bottom hinge has worn enough for the gate leaf to settle, and now the free edge is dragging asphalt. The motor keeps working, which means the hinge is taking the abuse and failing slowly.
- Gate jerks at the same point in every cycle. A roller with a flat spot or a hinge pin that’s no longer round causes a hitch every time it passes that point. You’ll hear it before you see it.
- Gate leans away from the post at the top. The top hinge pin has ovaled out its bore, and now the leaf is hanging at an angle. At this stage the motor is fighting the misalignment, and the strain travels straight to the opener arm.
- Grinding or squealing from the roller area. Nylon rollers lose their outer surface after enough cycles, leaving the bearing to run directly on the track. Steel rollers score the track once the bearing seizes.
- Gate travels slower than it used to. A dragging roller or a stiff hinge means the motor is pulling more current to do the same job. BFT openers tolerate this for a while, then the control board gives up before the hinge does.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
In Garden Grove, expect to pay between $165 and $410 for BFT hinge and roller replacement, installed. At the low end, that’s a single gate leaf with one worn hinge and a pair of standard rollers. At the high end, it’s a heavier double-leaf gate needing both top and bottom hinge sets, four to six rollers, and a track-alignment pass so the new parts aren’t asked to wear against a crooked rail.
Our price is written and handed to you before any work starts, per Haven Standard Clause 1. It includes the parts, the labor, removal of the old hardware, and a photographed record of what came off, what went on, and how the gate sits after the repair. We don’t quote a part price and then bill you labor hours we measured with a stopwatch. One number, one job, one written price before a single tool comes off the truck.
Every BFT hinge and roller replacement we install is covered by the 365-Day Done Right Promise. If the part fails or the gate drifts out of alignment within a year, we return and make it right at no charge.
DIY or Call Us?

There’s a narrow band of pre-work any owner can do safely: photograph the hinge plates and roller brackets so we can identify the part before we arrive, and note whether the gate rubs on the ground at one specific corner. That’s useful information. What we don’t recommend is unbolting a gate leaf or wedging it up to swap a hinge yourself. A BFT swing gate leaf can weigh 400 pounds or more, and the hinge under load is the one holding up everything above you. We’ve reset more than one gate in Garden Grove where someone pulled a hinge pin and the leaf came down on a car, a retaining wall, or a ladder. Spring-loaded slide gates add another layer, since the track tension and end stops have to be reset in the right order or the gate fires off the rail.
If you’ve already loosened something and the gate is sitting at an angle, stop there. Call (657) 837-6867 and describe what you found. We’ll bring the right hinge or roller, shims, and the means to set the gate back level without guessing.
FAQs
With regular use and Southern California’s dry climate, BFT steel hinges typically last 7 to 12 years before pin wear becomes audible or visible, and nylon rollers last 4 to 7 years before the outer layer degrades and the bearing starts grinding. Coastal-adjacent properties, like those a few miles west of Garden Grove with salt-air exposure, tend to see roller life on the shorter end. Call (657) 837-6867 if your gate is dragging or leaning, and we’ll tell you what’s actually worn after looking at it.
Sometimes. A hinge pin that’s still round can be cleaned, greased, and shimmed for a few more months of life, but a pin that’s visibly ovaled or a roller with a seized bearing has to come out. We’ll show you the part and explain which category it falls into before we quote anything. For an exact assessment, call (657) 837-6867.
Most single-leaf BFT hinge and roller replacements run 1 to 2 hours on site, including removing the old parts, installing the new ones, and testing the gate through 5 to 10 full cycles. Double-leaf gates with four hinges and full roller sets can run 2 to 3 hours. If you’d like a specific time window before we arrive, call (657) 837-6867 and we’ll tell you what the job involves.
We stock common BFT-compatible hinge pins, hinge leaf sets, and roller assemblies on our trucks, including hardware for the Deimos, Phobos, Giuno, and Rigel lines. Oddball configurations, like custom gate leaves that someone built around original BFT motor mounts, may need a parts order, and we’ll tell you that before any work starts. Call (657) 837-6867 with your motor model and gate type, and we’ll confirm what’s available for your setup.
