Linear Welding & Fabrication: The Garden Grove Owner’s Guide

We stock and install Linear-compatible welding and fabrication parts for Garden Grove gates, with most bracket repairs, hinge rebuilds, and frame reinforcements running between $180 and $520 installed. Same-day service is available when we have the part on the truck, which covers most Linear swing-gate bracket failures. The usual story we hear: a gate that’s sagged two inches on the latch side, a weld that cracked at the post, or a motor bracket that tore loose and left the arm pushing against nothing.

Most owners discover the failure the same way. The gate starts dragging, the opener strains, and eventually the gate stops mid-travel because the geometry changed enough that the limit settings no longer match the physical swing. We’re an independent service provider, not affiliated with Linear, but we work on their equipment every week in Garden Grove.

Which Linear Models This Applies To

Linear gate operators are common in Garden Grove, and the welding failures we see cluster around a few specific points regardless of model. The Linear SL and SLD slide-gate series uses a chain or belt drive where the idler bracket and the receiver post take repeated stress. The Linear GSL and GSD swing-gate arms fail most often at the steel mounting tab where the actuator bolts to the gate frame, or at the post bracket where the arm anchors to the pillar. Linear’s older AE and APeX boards don’t fail from welding, but the brackets they mount inside do corrode and crack.

Here’s the identification route we follow. The model number on Linear operators sits on a silver tag on the side of the motor housing, usually starting with SL, GSL, or GSD followed by a number. The bracket itself often has no part number stamped, so we measure the mounting hole spread and the bracket thickness, and match against the Linear series that fits that swing or slide geometry. The practical decision for Linear parts: OEM brackets from Linear distributors can run 30 to 50 percent higher than a quality aftermarket equivalent made from the same gauge steel, and for most Garden Grove residential gates, an aftermarket bracket cut and welded to fit is a better value. Where we insist on OEM is when the part carries a safety function, like a gate catch post or a positive stop that an aftermarket piece might undersize.

Signs Your Linear Welding & Fabrication Is Failing

Signs Your Linear Welding & Fabrication Is Failing
  • The gate sags visibly toward the latch side. This means a hinge weld or a hinge barrel has worn past tolerance, and the gate’s weight is now riding on the opener instead of the hinges.
  • You hear a creak or a knock at one specific point in the travel. That’s usually a cracked weld flexing open under load. It will get worse; cracked steel doesn’t heal.
  • The Linear arm bracket has pulled away from the gate frame. We see this on Garden Grove gates where the original installer welded the tab with two inches of bead instead of a full perimeter weld, and years of wind load finally tore it loose.
  • The gate scrapes the driveway or drags on the hinge side. The post has moved, or the hinge side bracket has deformed. The opener will start tripping its obstruction sensor and reversing unexpectedly.
  • You find rust flakes or a rust line at a weld joint. Coastal air and Garden Grove’s inland heat cycle accelerate this. A rust line at a weld means the joint is failing from the inside out.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

In Garden Grove, most Linear welding and fabrication repairs land between $180 and $520 installed. A simple bracket replacement with a stock aftermarket tab runs $180 to $260. A hinge rebuild where we cut out the old hinge and weld in a new barrel runs $280 to $420. A post replacement or a full frame reinforcement, where the existing post has cracked at grade or the gate frame has fatigued, runs $420 to $520 and occasionally higher if the post is set in concrete that must be jackhammered out. The price is written and handed to you before we strike an arc, under Haven Standard Clause 1. That written price includes the part, the labor, the weld consumables, and the cleanup. We don’t add a surprise line item at the end.

What you get on the invoice: the part number or the fabrication drawing reference, the weld type and rod used, the time on site, and the flat price. Every weld job includes a photo record of the failed part, the replacement fitted, and the finished weld, under Haven Standard Clause 4. The 365-Day Done Right Promise covers the weld and the bracket for a full year: if the repair doesn’t hold, we come back and make it right at no charge.

What an owner can safely do: eyeball the hinge side, take a picture of the sag, and check whether the bracket bolts are tight. What an owner should not do: attempt to weld a load-bearing gate bracket without knowing the gate’s weight, the post’s wall thickness, and whether the existing weld failed because of undercutting, bad penetration, or a post that’s rusted from the inside. A gate that breaks free at the hinge is a half-ton hazard. We’ve also seen DIY welds on Linear brackets that put so much heat into the tab that the powder coat on the motor arm cooked off and the arm’s internal bushing deformed.

If the gate is down, the opener is straining, or you see a crack spreading at a weld, call (657) 837-6867. We’ll send a technician who can measure the failure, name the part, and hand you a written price before any work begins.
